Information System for Living Environment
Case study: Solution for National Register of Nature Protection
National Register of Nature Protection managed by the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic contains constitutional and specialized documentation about various protected natural areas in the Czech Republic. In 2003 the Agency contracted T-MAPY to create a new information system for this register so that it can interconnect separately managed agendas, visualize data on a map as well as provide the public with access to selected data.
The core of the system is represented by relational database with respective map applications. The system is built on T-MAPY’s T-WIST technology that allows accessing and identifying data via web based applications and provides environment for effective data management. User interface is represented by a standard web browser. Main menu of the register is represented by a web page where individual register applications (such as protected natural areas, important bird areas, protected trees and more) are listed.
Live version of the system was implemented in 2006 and has been continually developed since than: new applications (e.g. photo archive) were launched, Oracle database implemented and map project was improved. The success of the project is also supported by the fact that other registers that were so far managed separately are being interconnected to digital register.
